`ELECTROMIZER’
- AT A GLANCE
1. Product :
The `ELECTROMIZER’
is a `series reactance device with secondary compensation'. Essentially it is
a `voltage step-down' equipment which applies a reduced voltage to the lighting circuit thereby reducing power consumption in the lighting fixtures.
2. Applications :
The `ELECTROMIZER’
finds application in energy saving in all types of DISCHARGE LAMPS like - FTLs, CFLs, HPSV, HPMV and MH lamps. Today, all these lamps are widely used in industry as well as office blocks and administrative buildings. Although
`ELECTROMIZER’
can be used for incandescent lamps also, it is not advised due to the substantial illumination drop.
3. Capacity Range :
The `ELECTROMIZER’
is supplied to the customer in the form of a panel complete with control and operational switchgear. Capacities available right from 3 KVA single phase upto 300 KVA three phase.
Generally custom designed to meet the customer's exact requirement.
4. Life of `ELECTROMIZER’
:
The life of any equipment is generally related to the mechanical wear and tear in operational conditions. Since the
`ELECTROMIZER’
coils are not subjected to any mechanical or electrical wear and tear, in theory, the life of the coils is indefinite. In practical terms, the
`ELECTROMIZER’
should last ATLEAST 15-20 years. (Note: The first installation is now
over 10 years old. With the number of installations exceeding 700, thus far,
the failure rate of `ELECTROMIZER’
has been 0.000%). Routine maintenance of switchgear items like contactors, relays and
mcbs (where provided) would be required. Fully manual models are virtually maintenance free and expected to give life-long service.
5. Energy Saving :
Quantum of energy savings depends on a number of parameters like input voltage,
the type, rating and make of lamps, lamp burning hours etc. However, the MINIMUM SAVING PERCENTAGE will never be less than
15. Generally, observed savings will typically be in the range of 22 - 27%. In ideal cases this figure goes up to as high as 36%. Therefore, while we normally offer a `money-back' guarantee of 15% savings, one may reasonably expect to get around 25% or better.
Another significant saving is achieved by way of life-extension of lamps. A fall out of this is also substantially reduced maintenance and lamp replacement expenses. Typically, an additional amount of between 25 - 50% of the cost of the
`ELECTROMIZER’
could be saved annually on this count alone.
6. Customer's feedback :
Without exception ALL our old customers are VERY HAPPY about the performance of
`ELECTROMIZER’
on all counts: Energy saving, Reliability, Reduction in maintenance of lamps, reduction in lamp replacement frequency (due to improved life of lamps and fittings), quick pay-back and above all, AFTER SALES SUPPORT. One may note here that due to zero failures, we have never faced an occasion where an engineer's visit for breakdown service was required. However, customers have a number of queries about the application, effect on environment (both physical and electrical), assessment of energy savings achieved etc AFTER installation of
`ELECTROMIZER’. In this respect too our support systems have been much appreciated. We do not expect our customers to take our word for this claim and therefore we always provide complete contact details of our old customers (on request) by way of which any prospective customers may get a confidential feedback directly on their own and without our intervention.
7. Cost of the Product :
For any prospective buyer, the most important factor to be considered while making any investment in ESDs
(Energy Saving Devices) is the `PAY-BACK' period. Subject to certain operational conditions like duration of lamp burning, percentage loading of the
`ELECTROMIZER’
panel (as compared to its rating), power factor of the lighting feeder, physical parameters like the capacity of the panel and features opted for by the customer and commercial factors like energy tariff,
the cost of the `ELECTROMIZER’
is such that the pay-back period will typically be in the range of 8 - 14 months. In exceptional cases, this period could be as little as 3 months and in WORST cases, as long as around 18 months.
It is impossible to indicate any flat price for a particular capacity of
`ELECTROMIZER’
panel since all panels are custom designed to suit the customer's requirement and may or may not incorporate certain switchgear and control / monitoring devices. Therefore, our price offers are generated ONLY after understanding details of the user's requirements of features and protective / control switchgear.
8. LIMITATIONS :
While the product itself does not have any drawbacks, the user must realize that the concept of energy saving in discharge lighting is based on the presumption that - like any other conservation activity - the user must be prepared to ALWAYS accept SOME COMPROMISE one way or the other.
What is important to consider here is that whether the compromise is REASONABLE enough and ACCEPTABLE to JUSTIFY the savings being achieved and whether it drastically affects comfort levels or performance of the equipment / personnel working with it.
Thus, as far as the `ELECTROMIZER’
(or any other similar / apparently similar devices) is concerned, depending on the extent of saving being achieved, there will always be a SMALL DROP in illumination level. In our (and our customer's) experience, this drop is very insignificant and does not affect performance.
9. FIRST TIME USERS :
While we would reiterate (and our existing users would confirm) that the drop in illumination levels due to installation of
`ELECTROMIZER’
is INSIGNIFICANT, a first time user may have apprehensions about such drop.
Therefore, from the point of view of first time users of this kind of equipment, we recommend that a trial / sample installation may be considered in an area which is least likely to affect performance due even to this insignificant drop in illumination. In our experience, the most ideal place for such trial is STREET / GARDEN LIGHTS. Here, the user may acquaint himself by monitoring the practical effects of
`ELECTROMIZER’
installation without any hassles or risk of perceived difficulties. Further installations in more critical areas like office blocks, manufacturing areas, stores etc may then be pursued after the assessment of the first installation in streets or gardens.
NOTE : Detailed technical notes on almost all subjects above are available with us for further study if the user wishes. We would be glad to share our views with you.
